Hawk-Eye named goal-line technology provider for Premier League next summer

De verbitterde Engelsen is een provocatie toevertrouwd:

Top flight clubs preferred the system ahead of German competitor
GoalControl, which is being used by FIFA

Hoe het in zijn werking moet gaan als de techniek 'ons' niet in de steek laat:

Citerend uit de Daily Mirror:

CiteerEnglish football caught up with the modern world last night when Premier League clubs voted to introduce goal-line technology from the start of next season.

Nearly three years after Frank Lampard's "goal that never was" for England against Germany in the World Cup saw the game's governing body FIFA change its opposition to the idea, every top flight match from August will have the cameras in place.

The 20 Premier League clubs agreed to adopt the UK-based Hawk-Eye system, ahead of the three other approved companies to have passed FIFA's testing programme.

It means the Premier League will be the first major competition in club football to use the technology as standard and end the long-running debate over whether the ball crossed the line.

De 'hawk-eye' is inmiddels op (inter)nationaal niveau ingeburgerd in onder andere tennis en cricket.
